New “Child Protection Procedures for Primary and Post-Primary Schools 2017” (hereinafter referred to as the “procedures”) have been developed and published and have come into effect in St Kieran’s College since Monday 11th December 2017. These guidelines have been implemented following consultation between the Department of Education and Skills, organisations representing school management, parents and teachers, the Department of Children and Youth Affairs and Tusla, the Child and Family Agency. The new procedures take account of the Children First Act, 2015 and the “Children First: National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children” published by the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs in 2017. Both of these documents can be accessed by clicking on the links below:

It should be noted that the all of the requirements of the new procedures, apart from those relating to the school’s Child Safeguarding Statement which are set out in Chapter 8 of the procedures, came into effect from 11 December 2017.
The Child Safeguarding Statement for St Kieran’s College was reviewed ratified by the Board of Management on Wednesday 9th March 2022.
