St Kieran’s College is to host the launch of Ossory’s preparation for the upcoming World Meeting of Families 2018. This day, held in the College grounds, on Sunday 7th May 2017 will be the start of fifteen months of prayer and reflection on the meaning and importance of family for us all. It is merely the beginning of our diocesan preparation for this great event.
The World Meeting of Families 2018 is to take place in Dublin from 21st to 26th August 2018. While the event itself will be of immense value to the Church, here in Ireland and throughout the world, the preparation for it is equally important. In fact it is in readying ourselves for the meeting in 2018 that we will have an opportunity to explore indepth the importance of family for us all.
The grounds of the College will be awash with Colour on this day with events and activities for all ages. A cornerstone of the day’s activities will be the annual diocesan U8 hurling blitz where boys and girls get to hurl for the pride of the parish; for many this will be the first time there are in the club colours. Music workshops, children’s entertainment, art workshops; competitions and so much more will see hundreds of people, families young and old, in attendance for this diocesan event. Fr Dermot Ryan, President of St Kieran’s College, noted that “having the grounds filled with people is part and parcel of every day here, however it is extra special when the College plays host to something as significant as this for the Dicoese. We too are delighted to assist in generating a real enthusiasm for the upcoming World Meeting of Families”.
Fr Dan Carroll, Diocesan Delegate for the World Meeting of Families, wants people “to keep an eye on the official website (http://www.worldmeeting2018.ie) and consider offering your experience and help in administration, stewarding, translating and in many other ways when the time comes” and until then to take part in the many diocesan activities that will be rolled out in the months ahead.
