The month of December is always a busy one for the numerous musical groups and choirs in the school. On Friday 13th, the Junior and Senior Choirs brought all of their equipment down to the Town Hall in Kilkenny’s High Street to perform some carols and festive songs for local shoppers. This fundraising event has been long established in the school calendar and is hugely important as a fundraiser for local charities. This year was again, a great success raising over €1600 for the local branch of Focus Ireland helping the homeless in our community at Christmas.
On Monday 16th December, the school Jazz Band, the Junior, Senior and Chamber Choirs, the Staff Choir, the Trad Band, the String Group and numerous readers came together to provide an evening of music, carols, poetry and prayer for a very reflective Carol Service in St Mary’s Cathedral. This carol service was replicated for the entire school community the following morning, again in St Mary’s Cathedral. Here are some images from those carol services:
On top of their performances at the Carol Services, The Trad Band were also very busy visiting local nursing homes to bring some traditional Irish Music during Christmas parties in the various day-care centres and residential homes around the city.
Well done to all the students involved in all of the above extra curricular activities. Advent offers us a wonderful opportunity to stop and reflect on our lives and what God is saying to us in our lives at this time, as we prepare again to celebrate the incarnation of Christ. Once again, the students and staff of St Kieran’s College have helped us to reflect on the meaning of Christmas through their charitable acts, words, song and deeds. Many thanks to Mr Fergal Brennan, Ms Olive O Connor and Mr Gerry Walsh for all of their hard work organising, rehearsing and preparing the lads for their various performances this Advent. Well done to all the students involved.
