Every year all Fourth Year students get the opportunity to go on a pilgrimage. The Fourth Year retreat involves a day trip, usually to a site of religious significance. In recent years this day has involved a walking journey in Glendalough, Co. Wicklow. This is a full day with stops at places of particular interest. Time is given for private reflection and personal prayer along the journey.
A group of Fourth Year students also have the opportunity to join in with the Ossory Pilgrimage once a year to Lourdes. Students are expected to raise funds for their ticket to Lourdes where they act as carers for the sick. These Fourth Year students usually speak of a very rewarding and enjoyable experience there looking after the sick, the elderly and those who need help in some way. Not only do students get a great sense of the meaning of pilgrimage itself, but they also gain an understanding and an insight into Lourdes itself.
