There are two choirs in St Kieran’s College. There are over twenty students in each choir.  The Junior Choir is for 1st and 2nd Years with unbroken voices.  The Senior Choir is for 2nd Year through to 6th Year students  with broken voices.  They rehearse twice a week at lunchtimes and sometimes after school if there is a collaboration with the Loreto Secondary School.  Both choirs practice throughout the year for events such as school masses, celebrations, St. Kierans Day, Graduation, Awards Night and the Kilkenny Music Festival.

Both choirs have enjoyed success in the Kilkenny Music Festival since 2010 when our first choir entered the festival and making history being the first all boys choir in the Post Primary Schools Competition.  The Senior Choir has won in both the Ann P Smithwick Cup and the Eddie Gray Memorial Cup, while the Junior Choir has had success in the Meubles Cup.

Every year, all the members of the two choirs, join together to perform Christmas Carols in the Town Hall on High Street, Kilkenny to raise money for local and national charities.  They have fundraised for charities such as Crumlin Childrens Hospital, Carlow/Kilkenny Home Care Team, The Kilkenny Branch of Autism Ireland and Down Syndrome Ireland, The Aislinn Centre and The Village Day Centre/ Alzheimers Society.

A new venture in 2013 saw the beginning of the Carol Service in the College Chapel.  This gives the choirs a unique opportunity to sing to family, friends and staff in a beautiful setting. The choirs join together for this carol service to sing in four part harmony.
