College Record 2007

I welcome this edition of the St. Kieran’s College Record which bravely attempts to chronicle the main events of the College during this, the 224th academic year.

The College campus is home to St. Kieran’s College Secondary School for boys, to Creidim, the Diocesan centre for Adult Religious Education and Faith Formation, to the Diocesan Forum Office and the Outreach programme of the National University of Ireland, Maynooth which with three hundred registered mature students celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.

St. Kieran’s has a proud tradition and while maintaining its tradition continues to respond to new needs and demands. A major part of this response over the past two years has involved serious financial commitments from all stakeholders especially the College Trustees. During this period the following projects have involved:-

New toilets / Refurbishment of the Glasshall and Ancillary Works / Main heating system/

Study hall and classrooms refurbishment / New boilers / Health and Safety items for the 1979 building / New lift system to the top floor / Water system and new tanks / Staff toilets / Sports and playing fields renewal / Pavillion refurbishment / New furniture, fittings and lockers / New computers and equipment.

Total expenditure to 31/08/06 stands at €1,769,559 which includes €161,356 for necessary maintenance alone. We have received capital grants to 31/08/06 of €999,042. The College Trustees have continued to invest and show their commitment in a most concrete way. For this phase they have committed €646,014 and overall, €1,086,014 to date.

St. Kieran’s continues to strive for excellence and depends on the hard work, dedication goodwill and support of many to meet current needs and plan for the future. Sincere thanks are due to Mr. John Curtis, Principal, and colleagues and staff, to the students, to the parents, the Parents’ Association, to my colleagues on the Board of Management, and Bishop Forristal and the Trustees.

This level of involvement has encouraged us to look forward to a period of expansion and development which will meet the needs of all those who make up the community that is St. Kieran’s College.

Mgr. Kieron J. Kennedy President.
